A characters change in thestory go away eventually lead to the resolution, and inevitably the end ofthe story. In Strong Horse Tea the main characters change is veryevident. Rannie Mae Toomers change in the story is apparent to thereader and audience. She (Rannie) goes through both an emotionalchange as well as a change in her beliefs (both spiritually and on howshe viewed people.) Rannie is a black woman living in America duringi ts tyrannous years, with her only salvation being her infant son,Snooks. Her son is very wander and in desperate need of medicine.Rannie is convinced that a white specify will drive and visit her andtake care of her son. Rannie, however, does not run into her situation,and hopes still that a doctor will come. Lawd, why dont that doctorcome on here? Rannie keeps on hoping, and not allowing Sarah, thewitch doctor to table service her. Rannie believes that Sarah help will beevil, and that the white doctor will soon come. We going to have us adoctor, Rannie Toomer said fiercly, walking all all over to shoo a fat winterfly from her childs forehead. I dont belive in none of that swampmagic.Rannie is unaware of who she is and how others view her. She does notrealize that the color of her kowtow is oppressing her. Rannie isconvinced that the mailman (her only connection to the outside world)can help her out. The mailman, however, has other views about Rannie.He sees her as an animal (Rannie Mae, leaning over him out of the rainsmelt like a wet goat. ) with perfectly no intelligence (Today hethought she looked more beastly than usual. ) Rannie is convincedthat the mailman will get her doctor for her, unless as the time passesshe comes to the realization that Sarah is her only hope.
